Laser application could be divided into 2 parts based on the processing methods, one is contact processing, another is non-contact processing.
Should classify the application of laser according to the processing technology, we could list more than 5 aspects. The main 5 aspects are laser cutting, laser welding, laser marking, laser heat treatment and cold treatment.I would like to explain these application one by one.
According to different kinds of laser source, there’s different kinds of laser cutting machine, like CO2 laser cutting machine, fiber laser cutting machine. The former is driven by laser tube, while the latter relies on the solid laser generator, like IPG or Max laser generator. The common point of these two laser cutting application is that both of them utilize the laser beam to cut the material. It makes full use of the principle of photoelectric conversion, and reduce the pollution of air and dust. Conventional argon arc welding machine is replaced by fiber laser welding machine in recent years. Not only because of the unique advantage of long-distance welding, but also because of the clean working. It could breakthrough the limit of long-distance and extreme environment, and it could guarantee a clean work piece after welding the surface of metal sheet or pipe. At present, many industries have already use this machine to manufacture their products,like car decoration, lithium battery, pacemaker and other artifacts that require high standard welding effect. YAG laser, CO2 laser and diode pump laser could be regarded as three main laser marking source at present. The depth of the marking effect depends on the laser power and the height between the laser beam and the surface of processing material. If you want to mark on the surface of the metal material, fiber laser marking machine could be a good choice, while CO2 or UV laser marking machine plays an important role in the non-metal material marking. And if you want to mark in the surface of the high-reflective material, you could choose special laser marking machine.
4.Heat treatment application.
It is widely used in the automotive industry, such as the heat treatment of cylinder liners, crankshafts, piston rings, commutators, gears and other parts. It is also widely used in aerospace, machine tool industry and other machinery industries. The application of laser heat treatment is much wider than that in foreign countries. The lasers currently in use are mostly YAG lasers and CO2 lasers.
